Interiors Photography: Home photo shoot with Jacqueline Mercer AKA @tinyandthehouse

This week’s Friday’s Feature showcases the photography of the colourful home of shoe designer, Jacqueline Mercer. She has cleverly turned her artistic talents to not only the decor of her home but also to her garden! If you follow her Instagram account, @tinyandthehouse , you will be familiar with her love of growing flowers in her North London home.

Natural daylight

Jacqueline’s house is full of quirky vintage finds and of course flowers, freshly picked from her garden. When we did the photo shoot it was a scorching hot day in summer, and we were able to have the Crittal doors wide open, letting the summer light flood the kitchen. The whole house had lovely light throughout, which is perfect for photographing interiors.

Trying for the cover shot!

When commissioned by magazines it’s always great to be asked to try to get the cover shot. This shot will involve a lot more styling than the other room shots and more often than not we include the home owner. At this photoshoot the stylist, Ciara Elliott (@ciaraelliott ), who also wrote the feature, layered the table with Jacqueline’s colourful crockery and plenty of vases filled with flowers. Hanging over the table is Jacqueline’s clever ‘cloud’ installation, which gives such a dramatic visual over head.

Sadly our shot didn’t get chosen for the cover!

Detail photographs tell the narrative

This house is full of wonderful objects collected by Jacqueline, which makes my job so much fun! Everywhere I turned there were cool details to capture. All these shots help to tell the narrative.

This feature has appeared in Real Homes, House and Home – Ireland’s top interiors magazine, and Homes & Antiques here in the UK.

(I have to mention that since these pictures were taken, Jacqueline now has a new floral sofa in her living room – so ignore the orange sofa, which I love!)
